Felt join: fraying, dampening, and rolling two ends of wool yarn lengths together to splice them.
Foundation chain: the starting chain used to create the first row, spiral, or loop of a project.

Loop: part of a previously created stitch, used to create a new stitch by passing the needle either over or under it in sequence with neighboring loops.
R
Rear loop(s): the loop(s) behind your thumb, previously a thumb loop.
Row: a chain of stitches. Repeated rows make fabric.
S
S-twist: the twist direction of finished yarn when the fibers were spun counter-clockwise. The yarn’s fibers will align diagonally from the top left to the bottom right, like the center diagonal of an S.
Stitch: a single set of movements of the needle through existing loops. Repeated stitches make a row.
T
Thumb loop: the loop in front of your thumb, wrapped around it.
W
Working loops: the thumb and rear loop(s) currently in use to create new stitches.
Working yarn: the yarn that’s threaded through the needle and used to create new stitches.
Z
Z-twist: the twist direction of finished yarn when the fibers were spun clockwise. The yarn’s fibers will align diagonally from the top right to the bottom left, like the center diagonal of an Z.
